thank you, abe beeson! thank you, hugh miller!

For musicians (and music fans) in the Seattle area, Abe Beeson needs no introduction. For the rest of you, Abe is one of the hosts of KEXP 90.3’s local music show, Audioasis. And last night (Saturday, 5/13) around 7:40, he played “Second Chance (for a Third Square Meal)” on the radio. That’s right, people. Let’s hear it for Abe Beeson!

Several months ago, Abe gave Red Jacket Mine its first radio airplay in Seattle when he played “Starboard Meets the Sound” on Audioasis. In other words, he’s a great guy. We love him.

For those of you who missed it the first time, or if you’d like to relive the magic, KEXP has a Streaming Archive. Just put in the date and time you’d like to listen to (in this case, Saturday, May 13, 2006, 7:40pm) and go. If I may make a suggestion, put in 7:35 and listen to a couple of great songs by a couple of our favorite Seattle artists, Tim Seely and Downpilot, first. Then enjoy your Red Jacket Mine…in context!

Speaking of people we love, Hugh Miller is surely one of them. Hugh is the editor-in-chief of a great music/art/film blog, Unfinished, that I’ve been visiting regularly for years. He generously gave The Daylight Moon its first online review years ago, and recently did the same (all the more glowingly) for the Starboard Meets the Sound EP. You can read the review here. (Alternately, you can read both reviews right here on the Press page.) Thanks, Hugh! We love you, too.

That’s all I’ve got for y’all right now. Come see us at Tower Records in the U-District this coming Saturday, May 20. We play at 3pm, bookended by our good friends Robert Roth (2pm) and Levator (4pm). As always, more information about that and other upcoming shows can be found on the Shows page.
