kexp, showbox, etc.

Hello, folks.

Before I go any further, I must say one thing: thank you, Abe Beeson! For those of you that don’t live in Seattle, Abe is one of the hosts of KEXP’s Audioasis, and thanks to him, tonight around 8:30pm PST, listeners all around Seattle (and the world, via streaming audio) heard “Starboard Meets the Sound.” Can you tell we’re excited? This is huge. Thanks, Abe!

You know what that means: now all of you can call (206)903-KEXP or e-mail KEXP’s DJs and request your favorite tracks from Starboard Meets the Sound. Call early, and call often! While you’re at it, give Abe Beeson a little bit of praise on our behalf.

Also, for everyone that hasn’t already heard: Red Jacket Mine will be playing at the Showbox on Saturday, March 11, along with Friday Mile and Sambusa. This is an early, all-ages (bar with ID) show, brought to you by Epidemic Music. Doors will open at 6pm, and RJM will take the stage at 7pm.

Tickets are $7 in advance (e-mail me for more info) and $10 at the door. Buy your tickets early and save money! Plenty of advance tickets are available…let us know how many you need!

Looking ahead, it appears we’ll be playing at Fremont’s ToST Lounge on Friday, March 24 with Cassandra Speaks. Keep an eye on the Shows page for more details.

Hope to see you all in two weeks at the Showbox. Remember: e-mail me for $7 advance tickets! And call or e-mail KEXP and request Red Jacket Mine!

video, showbox, etc.

Hello…

Just wanted to let you all know that I made it back safely from the land of Bryan Adams, just in time to play our show tomorrow night - Thursday, February 16 - at Fremont’s High Dive, with our friends Sweet Jesus and Weather. Show starts at 9pm and we play first. Cover is $5. Hope to see you all there!

Speaking of the trip to Canadia, it was quite a success, thanks in huge part to the hospitality (and gear) of Kristopher Hooper and Carrie McNeely. The efforts (and presence) of Marc Morrissette (aka Octoberman), Peter Doig (1/2 of Tailor Island), and the host of friendly folks that attended also deserve mention. For the full report, check the Past Shows page. I’ve posted some photos here, and…

As an added bonus, I’ve uploaded a *video* of Kris and I performing golden-oldie “Monotone” (avi) on the Music page. It isn’t much to look at, due to the Main’s low light, but the audio’s really something.

And finally, a bit of wonderful news: your friends in Red Jacket Mine are pleased to announce that we’ll be playing at the Showbox on Saturday, March 11. It’s an early, all-ages (bar with ID) show, and we play first, at 7pm. Admission will be $10 at the door, but contact me to find out how to obtain an advance ticket for the discounted price of $7. Keep an eye on the Shows page for further details and information about a very special guest.

We’re playing next Tuesday, February 21 at the Rendezvous, too…go the the Shows page for details on that.

Hope to see you all tomorrow! Enjoy the video.

new song, site updates

Hey guys…

Thanks to everyone who came out the O Lounge this past Friday. It was a great show, with my friends Nathan Wade and Patrick Porter (of Explone) turning in stellar sets…Patrick’s set even included a spur-of-the-moment cameo by the incredibly-talented Andrea Maxand on harmony vocals. I’ve uploaded some photos from the show here, and the setlist and such can be found on the Past Shows page.

I’ve updated the Music page with a demo of “Jesus’ House,” a new song that made its debut at the O Lounge show. (Click here to download the mp3.) Don’t let the title fool you—this one isn’t destined for a Dove award, but it may qualify for a Teardrop award. Sad songs are nature’s onions, you know.

I’ll be heading up to Vancouver, BC, this coming Saturday, February 11 for a solo show at the Main with Marc from Octoberman. My good friend (and authority on all things web-related) Kristopher Hooper will be sitting in with me on lap steel for a few numbers, too. This’ll be a gig to remember, for sure, and if we’re lucky, we’ll be able to document it in some way. Stay tuned.

Next band show is Thursday, February 16 at Fremont’s High Dive with our friends Sweet Jesus and Weather. Hope to see you there!

And for those of you who haven’t gotten a copy of the Starboard Meets the Sound EP yet, please e-mail me if you’d like one. They’re only $5, and all proceeds go to making more CDs. (The first pressing’s about to run out, and we really need to make more before our shows later this month!)

If you do have a copy, let us know what you think! Again, e-mail me, or discuss it in the forum!

kudos, updates, solo shows, oh my!

So I was visiting Explone.com the other day, as I often do, when I stumbled upon this quote:

“Lincoln plays what I could best describe as beautiful, spooky chamber pop, and he somehow manages to be both minimal and orchestral at the same time. He’s awesome.”

No, Patrick, you’re awesome. For those of you who don’t know Patrick Porter, Explone’s fearless leader, my solo show this Friday, February 3 at Queen Anne’s O Lounge would be a perfect opportunity to come out and hear his wonderful tunes. Our good friend Nathan Wade is opening the show at 8:30, Patrick goes on around 9:30, and I will play last, around 10:30. There’s no cover charge, either…more details are available on the Shows page.

Thanks to everyone who came out and helped us celebrate the release of our brand-new Starboard Meets the Sound EP this past Saturday at Mars Bar. We had a great time, and it was wonderful to see all of your smiling faces out there…I hope that everyone who sprung for a copy of the EP is enjoying it. Please, e-mail me or go to the Red Jacket Mine forum and let us know what you think. Special thanks to all of our friends in great local bands who came out and showed their support. I’ve posted some photos from the show here, and the setlist and random recollections can be found on the Past Shows page.

Looking ahead, I’ve got a solo show in Vancouver, BC, next Saturday, February 11 at the Main with my good friend Marc from Octoberman that I’m really looking forward to. Band shows will resume on Thursday, February 16 at Fremont’s High Dive and will continue the following Tuesday, February 21 at the Rendezvous. As always, all details are available on the Shows page.

Hope to see you all at a show! If you want a copy of the EP but can’t make it to a show, e-mail me and we’ll make arrangements to get you one.

P.S. For those of you who haven’t heard the EP yet, I’ve posted an mp3 of “22 Rose Petal Place” on the Music page. (Click here to download the mp3.) You can also stream it on our MySpace profile. Enjoy!
