major site updates, shows, etc.

I’ve updated the site with a bunch of information pertinent to the imminent release of the Starboard Meets the Sound EP: the lyrics are available on the Lyrics page, and the cover art and tracklisting are available on the Music page. I’ve also updated the Bio page and uploaded a new one-sheet press kit.

Once more, with feeling: for those of you who haven’t heard, we’re releasing the aforementioned EP this Saturday, January 28 at the Mars Bar. Ryder from Mohawk Lodge, moonlighting as bassist for Octoberman, will open the show at 8:45 with a couple of tender acoustic numbers. Red Jacket Mine will take the stage at 9pm, followed by our good friends Octoberman (from Vancouver, BC) at 10pm. Local hero and all-around super guy Robert Roth will close the evening with a rare solo acoustic set at 11pm. The cover is $6. Copies of the Starboard Meets the Sound EP will be available for $5. Each EP purchase also entitles the purchaser to one (1) hug from the Red Jacket Mine drummer of his or her choice. (While supplies last.)

Looking ahead, I’ve got a solo electric show the following Friday, February 3 at Queen Anne’s O Lounge. My friend Nathan Wade will be opening the evening at 8:30pm with his highly-individual brand of “post-apocalypse Americana.” Nathan plays a bitchin’ resonator and has fantastic songs that remind me of Nick Cave and Jeff Buckley, among others. Second up that evening is my good buddy Patrick Porter from melodic rock gods Explone. Patrick hasn’t done a solo acoustic show in a while, and I’ll bet he’ll be unveiling a couple of soon-to-be hits he hasn’t had a chance to teach the band yet.

Joshua from the O Lounge must’ve sensed that I’d be due for a good humbling after the CD release show, because I’ll be playing last this evening. There’s NO COVER CHARGE, and it’s a weekend night, so no excuses.

Many other shows are in the works, including a possible rescheduling of the aborted Candy Bar (R.I.P.) gig that should’ve taken place in Vancouver, BC, last weekend. Stay tuned for details.

Hope to see you all at the Mars Bar this Saturday! I can’t wait for everyone to hear the EP.

glad tidings

Hello, folks. It is with great joy that I wish to announce the completion of Red Jacket Mine’s new, semi-live-in-the-makeshift-studio EP, titled Starboard Meets the Sound, to be released at our show on Saturday, January 28 at Seattle’s beloved Mars Bar.

As previously alluded-to, this EP was recorded on two different, but equally wonderful, Sansui six-track cassette recorders. (One had a busted track, so I suppose it was a five-track recorder. But I digress…) All basic tracks were recorded live, with about four total guitar overdubs. Vocals were overdubbed. All tracking took place after hours in the fabulous East Wing of Emerald City Guitars in downtown Seattle’s Pioneer Square. We were recorded, assisted, prodded, and otherwise enabled by the honorable Reverend Eric Daw. All this, and still no bass guitar.

In celebration of this joyous occasion, I’ve posted another mp3 from the EP on the Music page for your downloading pleasure. Joining “Kozy-Mo” (see below) in the sneak-preview section is a tune called “Every Time That I’ve Tried” (mp3). I really hope you all enjoy it. As always, let me know what you think…discuss the new tracks in the Red Jacket Mine forum, or e-mail me!

As before, in an effort to appease those with less patience / disk space, “Every Time That I’ve Tried” is also streaming on our MySpace profile.

We’ve got a smattering of shows coming up, too: I’m playing a solo show at Vancouver, BC’s Candy Bar with my friends Octoberman on Saturday, January 21, we’re playing our CD release party at the Mars Bar with Octoberman and Robert Roth on Saturday, January 28, and we’re playing Fremont’s High Dive with our friends Sweet Jesus on Thursday, February 16. More shows are in the works. All details are available on the Shows page.

Keep an eye on the Music page in the coming days for cover art, a tracklisting, and other information about the forthcoming EP.
