a christmas gift for you from red jacket mine

As promised (though sooner than I expected, thanks to a post-Christmas-dinner lull), the first sneak-preview of Red Jacket Mine’s as-yet-untitled forthcoming EP, due out at our Mars Bar show on Saturday, January 28, is available for download on the Music page. For those with less patience/disk space, the song, titled “Kozy-Mo,” is also streaming on our MySpace profile.

Keep an eye on both spots in the coming weeks for more exclusive preview mp3s from the forthcoming EP. And as always, let me know what you think…discuss the new tracks in the Red Jacket Mine forum, or e-mail me!

thanks for christmas…

Just a quick note to wish everyone a merry Christmas and thank all of the kind people who came out to our show last Tuesday at Fremont’s ToST Lounge. We played what may have been our best show yet to a packed house and had a blast. Thanks to Woodrush and Rejoice for sharing the bill with us, thanks to Alejandro for the incredible sound (rendered in glorious MONO, due to a last-minute equipment failure), and thanks to Erik making it all possible. As per usual, I’ve added the setlist and such to the Past Shows page, and I’ve uploaded some great photos here.

As I sit at my computer on this rather warm Christmas Eve, my cats and I are listening to Abbey Road, but before that, we listened to the completed mixes of 1/2 of the new Red Jacket Mine EP, due out at our show Saturday, January 28 at the Mars Bar. It may be the Christmas cheer talking, but I think it sounds pretty good, and I hope you will, too. Keep an eye on the Music page and our MySpace profile for sneak previews in the coming weeks.

The next scheduled Red Jacket Mine show will take place on Saturday, January 21 at Vancouver, British Columbia’s Candy Bar. I’ll be playing a solo set, opening for my good friends Octoberman. Marc (aka Octoberman) will then make the trek down to Seattle the following weekend for our Mars Bar show, opening for local luminary Robert Roth.

Guess that’s about it. Happy holidays, everyone. Thanks for a great year!

suey! and the international tour begins…

Thanks to everyone who came out to our show at Chop Suey last night. It was sparsely attended, in the way that only a Monday night show can be, but it was a hell of a lot of fun. Our buddies Amateur Radio Operator tore it up, too…you should’ve been there. Thanks to Alex for the awesome sound reinforcement, and thanks to Colin for setting up the show. I’ve uploaded some photos here and added the setlist to the Past Shows page.

Next up is an all-ages solo show at the SS Marie Antoinette (1235 Westlake Ave. N) this Friday, December 9. Doors are at 7pm, and the music begins at 8pm with TM Anderson. I play second at 9pm, and Sky Lynn and her band (collectively known as Levator) will take it home at 10pm. It should be a lot fun. Again, it’s ALL AGES and the cover charge is $5. Hope to see you there.

After that we’ll play our last show of 2005 at Fremont’s ToST Lounge on Tuesday, December 20. We play first at 9pm, and we’ll be followed by Woodrush and Rejoice. This is a 21+ show, and the cover is $5. Fremont’s been good to us in the past, so I’ve got high hopes for this show.

Finally, I’ve got some wonderful news: the first date of Red Jacket Mine’s sporadic international tour has been announced—I’ll be playing a solo show at Vancouver, BC’s Candy Bar on Saturday, January 21. I’ll be playing with my good friend(s) Octoberman, who’ll also be coming down for the next week’s show here in Seattle at the Mars Bar. As always, all details can be found on the Shows page.

That’s it for now…hope to see you at the Antoinette this Friday.

sweet nectar and other notes

Thanks to everyone who made Tuesday night’s show at Fremont’s Nectar Lounge such a huge success. You know who you are: Cory & Mike (for making sure the sound was just right), Greg (for setting up the show), and all the wonderful folks in Sweet Jesus (for bringing out ALL of your friends, putting on a great show, and being so friendly). I’ve uploaded some photos and posted the setlist and dewy-eyed reflections to the Past Shows page.

Next up is Capitol Hill’s beloved Chop Suey on Monday, December 5. We go on at 8pm. I’ll play a solo set at the SS Marie Antoinette on Friday, December 9 at 9pm. Then Fremont’s ToST Lounge on Tuesday, December 20 at 9pm. Hope you can be there!

Also: the recording of a brand-new Red Jacket Mine EP, featuring the exciting sounds of real people making music in the same room at the same time, begins this week…look for it in January. Also in January: a cross-border trek for a show in Vancouver, BC is in the works. Stay tuned to the Shows page for details.
